Sultan, Ministers Pay Condolence Visit to Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Sunday received a high-profile delegation led by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, at the Government House Bauchi. The visit was to commiserate with the government and people of Bauchi State over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. 

The delegation included the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, and former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung. They joined the Sultan in offering condolences and prayers for the repose of Sheikh Dahiru’s soul. 

Governor Bala Mohammed described the visit as a demonstration of national unity and respect for the late scholar, noting that Sheikh Dahiru’s lifelong dedication to Islamic knowledge, moral guidance, and societal development left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s religious and social landscape. 

The Sultan and ministers urged followers of Sheikh Dahiru to uphold his legacy of peace, humility, and scholarship, stressing that his teachings remain a beacon for generations to come. 

Short Life History of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi

Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi (1927 – November 2025) was one of Nigeria’s most respected Islamic scholars and the Grand Leader of the Tijaniyya Movement in the country. Born in Bauchi, he devoted nearly a century to the propagation of Islam, Qur’anic commentary (Tafsir), and spiritual guidance. 

Early Life: Born on 29 June 1927 in Northern Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru studied under prominent scholars and became deeply rooted in the Tijaniyya Sufi order. 

Scholarship: He was renowned for his passionate Qur’anic Tafsir sessions, which attracted millions of followers across Nigeria and West Africa. 

Leadership: As a leader of the Tijaniyya, he emphasized peace, humility, and devotion, guiding communities with wisdom and compassion. 

Legacy: Sheikh Dahiru authored notable works on Qur’anic interpretation and nurtured generations of students, leaving behind a vast spiritual following estimated in the millions. 

Family: He was blessed with a large family, with reports suggesting he had over 90 children. 

His passing marks the end of an era in Nigerian Islamic scholarship, but his teachings and moral guidance continue to inspire Muslims across Africa and beyond.
