Governor Bala Mohammed Pays Condolence Visit to Family of Late Etsu Bassa Nge Abu Ali

Governor Bala Mohammed, accompanied by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government Aminu Hammayo, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Etsu Bassa Nge Abu Ali in Kaduna, where he was received by the wife of the deceased, Hajiya Fatima Abu Ali, the deceased’s former Aide-de-camp, Major General J. S. Bindawa (Rtd), along with other family members. 

The governor described the late Etsu Abu Ali, a former Governor of Bauchi State, as a respected leader whose contributions to the development and unity of Bauchi will remain unforgettable. He assured that Bauchi State will continue to immortalize him in recognition of his selfless service and enduring legacy. 

Biography of Late Brigadier-General Abu Ali (Etsu Bassa Nge)

Brigadier-General Abu Ali, fondly remembered as the Etsu Bassa Nge, hailed from the Bassa Nge Kingdom in Kogi State. He rose through the ranks of the Nigerian Army to become a Brigadier-General and was appointed Military Administrator of Bauchi State from September 1990 to January 1992 under General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime. 

During his tenure, he oversaw several landmark projects, including: 

AThe commissioning of the Bauchi Township Water Project, which improved water supply infrastructure. 

Strengthening of the Bauchi Tomato Processing Company, boosting agricultural productivity. 

Founding of Wikki Tourists Football Club, which remains a prominent team in Nigerian football. 

Decisive management of the 1991 ethno-religious unrest in Tafawa Balewa and other communities, where he imposed curfews and deployed security to restore peace. 

After retiring from military service, he became the Etsu Bassa Nge, serving as a custodian of culture and tradition for his people. His dual legacy as both a military leader and traditional ruler earned him respect across Nigeria. 

Brigadier-General Abu Ali passed away in November 2025 and was laid to rest with full military honors. His life remains a testament to service, unity, and leadership. 

Family’s Appreciation

During the condolence visit, the family expressed their deep appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for honoring them with his presence and for his kind words about the life and service of the late Etsu Abu Ali. 

A Prayer for Eternal Rest

Governor Bala Mohammed prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
