Bauchi State Charts New Path with Mining Institute in Alkaleri

The Bauchi State Government has taken a bold step toward unlocking its vast mineral wealth with the inauguration of a Central Working Committee for the establishment of the Mining Institute, Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS). 

At the ceremony, the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Hon. Mohammed Maiwada Bello, praised the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, describing the institute as a strategic investment in the future of Bauchi’s mining sector. 

Why MIABAS Matters

Mining has long been recognized as one of Bauchi State’s untapped treasures. With MIABAS, the government aims to: 

Build technical capacity in exploration, extraction, and processing 

Promote research and innovation in mineral development 

Strengthen local content and value addition 

Create opportunities for youth empowerment and employment 

Ensure sustainable practices in environmental management 

In short, MIABAS is designed to be more than just an academic institution — it will serve as a hub for skills, innovation, and economic diversification. 

The Committee Behind the Vision

The newly inaugurated committee, chaired by Hon. Bello himself, brings together experts from ministries, academia, and industry. Their mandate is clear: deliver a comprehensive framework for MIABAS within three months. 

Members include representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Justice, Finance, Housing & Environment, ATBU Bauchi, ATAP Polytechnic, Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, Nigeria Institute of Mines Jos, MIREMCO, and the Miners Association of Nigeria, among others. 

This diverse team reflects the government’s commitment to building an institute that meets both national and international standards. 

Looking Ahead

Hon. Bello urged the committee to approach the task with professionalism and dedication, expressing confidence that MIABAS will soon stand as a landmark institution in Bauchi’s drive for sustainable mineral development. 

With Allah’s guidance, the Mining Institute promises to open new doors for Bauchi State  transforming mineral potential into real prosperity for its people.
