From:Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi
On 16th December 2025, Gombe State made headlines as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya unveiled bold plans to transform the state into a renewable energy hub. At a roundtable organized by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in collaboration with the state government, he emphasized that clean energy is the key to jobs, industry, and prosperity
Governor Yahaya highlighted energy as central to Gombe’s economic transformation, citing:
Deployment of solar streetlights across communities
Revitalization of solar-powered healthcare facilities and schools
Investor-friendly reforms that earned Gombe 1st place in Nigeria’s Ease of Doing Business rankings (2021 & 2022)
Most peaceful state in the North-East
Abundant solar resources and vast tracts of land
Rising energy demand driven by a youthful population
These strengths uniquely position Gombe to lead Nigeria’s energy transition.
Electricity Law 2025: empowers Gombe to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently
Plans for a State Electricity Regulatory Commission to collaborate with NERC on distribution, metering, and off-grid systems
November 2025: MoU signed for a 1MW solar mini-grid in Talasse (Balanga LGA) under a PPP with Mids Dynamics Ltd
Similar projects planned in Filiya (Shongom LGA) and 22 other locations across the state
Collaboration with REA to expand access in underserved communities
Anchored in the Gombe State 10-Year Development Plan (DEVAGOM 2021–2030):
“Every home, school, health facility and business will have access to clean, reliable and affordable energy to drive productivity, reduce poverty and build resilience.”
Governor Yahaya urged investors, development partners, financiers, researchers, and community leaders to join hands in harnessing renewable energy opportunities. He assured:
Land, security, policy support, and expedited approvals to de-risk investments
A commitment to turning discussions into bankable, investment-ready projects
Gombe is not just talking about renewable energy — it is building the legal, policy, and investment framework to become a clean energy powerhouse in Nigeria’s North-East.
