Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a resilient and inclusive Gombe State, urging stronger collaboration between the state government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to tackle economic challenges and improve citizens’ livelihoods.
Speaking at the Government House in Gombe during a courtesy visit by the management team of the CBN Gombe Branch, Governor Yahaya emphasized that governance in difficult economic times must be anchored on innovation, institutional synergy, and people-focused interventions.
“No single institution can drive economic recovery and growth in isolation. Deliberate collaboration between the state government and the apex bank is critical to lifting citizens out of poverty and strengthening economic stability,” the Governor stated.
Governor Yahaya commended the CBN for its intervention programmes, noting that many are already yielding positive results. However, he urged the Bank to continually refine and redesign its initiatives, particularly in agriculture and entrepreneurship, to ensure greater impact and sustainability.
Drawing lessons from past schemes such as the Anchor Borrowers Programme and the Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme, he called for fresh, innovative, and responsive initiatives that address existing gaps, improve productivity, enhance food security, create jobs, and stimulate inclusive growth.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security, stressing that strategic partnerships remain essential for long-term resilience. He assured the CBN delegation that Gombe State is open and ready to support development-oriented interventions.
The delegation, led by Acting Branch Controller and Deputy Director Malam Yunusa Bubamubi, commended the Governor for his extensive infrastructural investments, particularly the dualization of the road passing through the CBN Gombe Branch. Bubamubi noted that the project will significantly improve access, enhance security, and stimulate economic activities within the Special Capital Zone.
The CBN team briefed the Governor on the branch’s operations and corporate social responsibility programmes, while seeking sustained partnership with the state government. Bubamubi reiterated the Bank’s readiness to work closely with Gombe State in advancing the Governor’s development goals.
Governor Yahaya concluded by describing the people of Gombe as resilient, hardworking, and enterprising, underscoring that the visit reflects a shared commitment to deepening collaboration for sustainable development and improved welfare. End
