Gombe, Nigeria – January 7, 2026

The political landscape in Gombe State has shifted further in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as two lawmakers from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially defected to the APC.

Hon. Gabriel Galadima Fushison, representing Kaltungo West Constituency, and Hon. Malon Nimrod Yari, representing Shongom Constituency, announced their decision during a visit to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, at the Government House. They were accompanied by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, his Deputy Hon. Sadam Bello, and other principal officers of the Assembly.

The lawmakers explained that their move was motivated by Governor Yahaya’s inclusive style of governance, sterling leadership, and impressive performance across the state.

They emphasized that even while in opposition, their constituencies were not sidelined.

Projects and democratic dividends reached their people, convincing them of the Governor’s fairness and accessibility.  They described joining APC as the best way to reciprocate Yahaya’s commitment to equitable development.

Welcoming the defectors, Governor Yahaya described their decision as a vote of confidence in his administration. He assured them of:

Equal treatment and full integration within the APC family.

Continued cooperation between the executive and legislature, which he credited for the peace and stability in Gombe.

Confidence that with unity of purpose, APC will achieve overwhelming success in the 2027 general elections, both in Gombe and nationwide.

With this latest defection, APC now controls 23 out of 24 seats in the Gombe State House of Assembly, leaving PDP with just one seat.

This follows the earlier defection of Minority Whip Hon. Zubairu Ayala last year, signaling a steady weakening of PDP’s presence in the state legislature.

The defections consolidate APC’s dominance in Gombe, positioning the party as a near-uncontested force ahead of the 2027 elections. For PDP, the challenge will be how to remain relevant in a state where its legislative influence has been reduced to a single seat.  End
