Senator Shehu Buba Umar Commissions 40 Solar-Powered Boreholes in Bauchi South

By, Abdulwahab Muhammad

Access to clean water has long been a challenge for communities across Bauchi South. This week, Senator Shehu Buba Umar took a bold step to change that narrative by commissioning 40 solar-powered overhead water tanks (boreholes) across the district.

For years, residents complained about inadequate water supply, especially during election campaigns. Today, those concerns have been addressed as the newly installed boreholes are fully functional, bringing relief to households across seven local government areas and seventy-five wards.

Beyond the constituency-funded projects, Senator Umar also dipped into his personal resources to finance additional boreholes, ensuring that more communities benefit from sustainable water solutions.

The commissioning event was more than just an infrastructure launch—it was a gathering of political heavyweights and community leaders. Among those present were:

Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Sade (Usama Sade), leader of the movement

Hon. C. Nuhu, former House of Representatives member for Toro

Rt. Hon. Kawuwa Shehu Damina, former Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly

Tijjani Aliyu, former Minority Leader

Former Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and other political figures

Their presence underscored the significance of the project and the broad support for Senator Umar’s vision.

In addition to water projects, Senator Umar provided direct financial support to different groups:

₦1 million to women

₦1 million to youths

₦500,000 to elders

₦500,000 to the party structure

This brings the total to ₦3 million in empowerment funds, alongside other assistance to vulnerable residents.

The response from the people was overwhelmingly positive. Women and youths expressed gratitude, describing the projects as life-changing. Many offered prayers for Senator Umar’s continued success and voiced support for his ambition to become Governor of Bauchi State in 2027, believing he can extend his development agenda to the entire state.

Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s initiative is more than a political gesture—it is a practical solution to a pressing need. By addressing water scarcity and empowering communities, he has positioned himself as a leader deeply committed to the welfare of his people.
