Bauchi’s ₦9 Billion Digare–Diji Road Project: Building Pathways to Growth

By Abdulwahab Muhammad Senior Special Assistant, to his Excellency Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State.
Bauchi State is entering a new chapter of development. Under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration has embarked on a landmark ₦9 billion road and bridge project spanning 38.65 km along the Digare–Diji corridor. More than just a construction effort, this initiative is a blueprint for rural transformation and industrial expansion.
From Isolation to Opportunity
For years, communities along Digare–Diji faced severe access challenges, particularly during the rainy season. Roads became impassable, cutting off farmers from markets, patients from hospitals, and students from schools. The ongoing project is reversing this reality, offering smoother mobility, safer transport, and reliable year-round access.
Governor Bala Mohammed has consistently emphasized that roads are not mere pathways — they are lifelines. This project embodies that philosophy, ensuring that development reaches every corner of Bauchi State.
The Numbers That Matter
Project Value: ₦9 billion
Length: 38.65 km of road and bridge infrastructure
Over 700 km of roads constructed or rehabilitated across Bauchi in the past six years
Corridor connects to Diji, where a cement plant is proposed
These figures underscore a deliberate strategy: build infrastructure that supports both rural livelihoods and industrial growth.
Economic and Social Impact
Farmers gain easier access to markets, reducing losses and boosting incomes.
Commerce: Traders and transport operators benefit from reduced travel time and costs.
The proposed cement plant in Diji will rely on this corridor for raw material supply and distribution.
Employment: Construction and industrial activity are expected to generate jobs, stimulating local economies.
Social Services: Improved access to healthcare and education strengthens community resilience.
Residents along the corridor have shown patience and cooperation, recognizing the long-term benefits. The administration has reassured them of quality delivery, positioning Bauchi as a state where development is inclusive and people-centered.
The Digare–Diji project is more than asphalt and bridges. It is a pathway to opportunity, resilience, and shared progress. By investing in infrastructure, the PDP-led government is laying the foundation for Bauchi’s economic diversification and sustainable industrialization.
As construction continues, one thing is clear: Bauchi State is building not just roads, but futures.
