Gombe Emir to Confer Traditional Title on NUJ Chairman, Faruk Mu’azu

The Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, will on Sunday, January 25, 2026, confer a prestigious traditional title on the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, Alhaji Faruk Mu’azu Gombe. 

The historic turbaning ceremony, organized by the family of the Late Wakilin Doka, Alhaji Umaru Yole, is scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m. at the residence of the late Umaru Gombe, located behind the Palace of Yeriman Gombe in Tudun Wada Quarters. 

The event is expected to draw a distinguished audience, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, title holders, government officials, journalists, and well-wishers from across Gombe State and beyond. Family sources described the ceremony as a celebration of heritage and remembrance, noting that it symbolizes the preservation of tradition and the strengthening of community bonds. 

Honouring a Legacy

The conferment is widely seen as recognition of Mu’azu’s contributions to journalism and community service, while also serving as a tribute to the late Wakilin Doka’s enduring legacy. The honour symbolically passes on the values of service and tradition to his grandson, Faruk Mu’azu, reinforcing cultural continuity within the Gombe Emirate.

Elected Chairman of the NUJ Gombe State Council in August 2024, securing 93 votes against his opponent’s 53.

Capacity building: making training and retraining of journalists a norm in the council. 

Infrastructure development: completing ongoing projects to ensure full use of the NUJ Secretariat.
