Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has led top government officials, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in a symbolic tree-planting exercise as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Bauchi State.
The exercise took place at the Bauchi Golden Jubilee Park (formerly Eagle Sino Park) in the state capital and highlighted the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and long-term development.

Speaking during the event, Governor Bala Mohammed said the initiative was designed to address environmental challenges threatening livelihoods and public health across communities in the state. He stressed that tree planting remains a vital natural solution to desertification, flooding, climate change impacts, and biodiversity loss.
The Governor urged residents to plant at least one tree each, explaining that the collective effort would complement his administration’s ambitious plan to plant five million trees across the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State.
He disclosed that in partnership with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, the state government has established 20 tree nurseries across all local governments, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention for environmental protection and job creation, particularly for youths and women.
Governor Bala Mohammed also issued a strong warning against indiscriminate cutting of trees for commercial purposes, noting that the government would not tolerate actions that undermine conservation laws and threaten community wellbeing.
According to him, the tree-planting exercise aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially global efforts aimed at combating climate change and promoting a healthier, more sustainable environment. He described the Golden Jubilee as a moment of reflection and renewal, calling on citizens to unite in advancing peace, development, and environmental responsibility.
As part of the ceremony, the Governor announced the official renaming of Eagle Sino Park to Bauchi Golden Jubilee Park, adding that the state government plans to establish more parks across Bauchi State with similar environmental and social objectives.
Speaking on behalf of traditional institutions, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu, urged citizens, institutions, and development partners to sustain environmental stewardship through collective action, stressing that a greener and safer Bauchi is achievable when all stakeholders play their part.
The event culminated in the planting of 50 trees, each named after past and present leaders of Bauchi State, symbolizing continuity, legacy, and shared responsibility in building a greener, healthier, and more prosperous future for the state.
