Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Professor Buba Garegy Bajoga, a distinguished academic, accomplished engineer, and elder statesman, who died at the age of 88 in the United Kingdom. Governor Yahaya described the late Professor Bajoga as “an academic of international repute, a disciplined educator, and an illustrious son of Gombe State who devoted his life to scholarship, public service, and national development.” A Pillar of Educational ReformThe Governor recalled Professor Bajoga’s pivotal role as Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions in 2020, noting that his report provided vital direction and momentum for the ongoing repositioning of tertiary education in Gombe State. “Professor Bajoga was a man of exceptional intellect, integrity and uncommon commitment to national service. His counsel, experience and patriotism greatly strengthened our efforts to reform and reposition tertiary education in Gombe State,” Governor Yahaya said. A Life of Service and ScholarshipProfessor Bajoga’s academic career spanned decades, beginning at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he rose to become Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1984. He later played a central role in the evolution of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, serving two terms as Vice-Chancellor between 1984 and 1994 and chairing the Committee of Vice-Chancellors. Beyond academia, he contributed immensely to Nigeria’s telecommunications and engineering sectors. He held leadership positions at Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), worked with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and served with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), shaping policy and institutional governance. A Legacy of Humility and PatriotismGovernor Yahaya emphasized that Professor Bajoga will be remembered for his humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to education, engineering, and national development.
