A Feast of Harmony: Bauchi Spreads ₦540m Christmas Cheer

From:Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi Senior Special Assistant on Communication to Governor Bala Abdulkadir of Bauchi state.
The Bauchi State Government has taken a remarkable step to foster religious harmony and inclusivity by approving and disbursing over ₦540 million worth of food items to Christian communities across the state as part of the 2025 Christmas celebrations.
This initiative, announced by Mr. Abdon Dalla Gin, Chairman of the State Government Committee on Distribution of Christmas Gifts, reflects Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to fairness and peaceful coexistence among diverse faiths in Bauchi.
The Governor approved the purchase of undiluted food items, ensuring quality and fairness in distribution. The items included:
171 bulls
222 rams
3,462 bags of 50kg Nigerian rice
504 units of 25-litre groundnut oil
These items were shared through the five recognized blocs of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Bauchi State:
ECWA/TEKAN
Catholic Secretariat
PFN/CPFN
OAIC
CCN
Other beneficiaries included federal and state Christian functionaries, registered associations, military and paramilitary formations, political party offices, and Governor’s Christian coordinators across all 20 local government areas.
In addition to the food distribution, the Governor approved the early release of December 2025 salaries for civil servants and public office holders. This move was designed to ease festive expenses and ensure that workers could celebrate Christmas with dignity and joy.
Local government caretaker committees also complemented the state’s gesture by supporting Christian communities in their respective areas.
This initiative goes beyond material gifts—it is a symbol of love, peace, and togetherness. By extending support to persons with special needs and residents from other ethnic groups, the Bauchi State Government reinforced the message that Christmas is a season of unity, not division.
Mr. Dalla Gin praised the Governor’s inclusive leadership style, describing Bauchi as a state where citizens enjoy a strong sense of belonging regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
Promotes interfaith harmony in a diverse state.
Strengthens social unity by including marginalized groups.
Boosts economic relief during a festive season.
Sets a precedent for inclusive governance in Nigeria.
This gesture is more than charity—it’s a political and social statement about coexistence. In a time when Nigeria continues to navigate religious and ethnic diversity, such acts of inclusivity remind us that unity is possible when leadership embraces fairness and compassion. End
