Gombe, Nigeria – November 17, 2025
The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has expressed outrage over the attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where several students were abducted and some officials reportedly killed.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described the incident as “tragic, senseless, and utterly unacceptable,” warning that the continued targeting of schools poses a grave threat to the region’s stability and Nigeria’s educational future.
On behalf of his colleagues, Yahaya extended condolences to Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, the affected families, and the people of Kebbi. He assured them of the Forum’s solidarity and support during this difficult time.
“Schools must be sanctuaries of learning, not targets of violence,” Yahaya said, stressing that repeated assaults on educational institutions risk reversing progress in tackling the out-of-school crisis across Northern Nigeria.
The NSGF called for an urgent, well-coordinated operation by security agencies to rescue the abducted girls and bring the perpetrators to justice. Yahaya emphasized that the safety, education, and welfare of young Nigerians remain a top priority for the Forum, reaffirming its commitment to work closely with the Federal Government and security institutions.
The Forum also urged communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in the collective effort to rid the region of criminality. Yahaya prayed for the safe return of the abducted students and offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
