Coalition of Islamic Groups Dismisses Allegations Against Gov Bala Mohammed

By Abdulwahab Muhammad Bauchi SSA Communication to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed of Bauchi State.
A coalition of Islamic groups in Bauchi State has strongly rejected allegations linking Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and his administration to terrorism and banditry financing. The groups, led by the Bauchi State Pilgrims Welfare Board, described the claims as baseless, misleading, and dangerous to the peace of the state.
At a press briefing held at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi, Islamic scholars from different sects came together to defend the governor. Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Imam Muhammad Yusuf Adam emphasized that Bauchi remains one of the most peaceful states in Northern Nigeria.
He noted that the state has become a safe haven for people fleeing insecurity in neighboring regions. “If terrorism and banditry were widespread here, people would not be moving into Bauchi in such large numbers,” he argued.
The coalition insisted that no town or forest in Bauchi serves as a hideout for terrorists or bandits. They stressed that no individual has ever been arrested in the state with weapons or supplies meant for such groups.
Quoting the Qur’an, Imam Yusuf reminded the public: “When you speak, speak the truth” (Surah 6, Verse 154).
Governor’s Efforts Against Insecurity
The coalition highlighted Governor Bala Mohammed’s active role in combating insecurity, pointing to his support for security agencies and vigilante groups. They recalled his swift response during bandit incursions in Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area, and his directive to Imams and scholars to intensify prayers for peace.
They also clarified that individuals recently linked to the allegations, such as Bello Badejo, were only involved in legitimate security cooperation, not criminal activities.
Beyond defending the governor, the coalition demanded the immediate release of Bauchi government officials currently detained in Abuja, including the Commissioner of Finance. They described the allegations against them as unfounded, stressing that these officials are known for good character and peaceful living.
“Our people are shocked. None of them has ever been associated with banditry. They should be allowed to return to their families and continue their duties,” the coalition declared.
The coalition cautioned politicians against exploiting security issues for rivalry, warning that such actions could destabilize the state. “Conflict is like a forest fire: once it starts, it does not burn only those who ignited it,” they said.
In conclusion, the coalition insisted that Bauchi residents are best positioned to judge their governor’s conduct, not outsiders. They prayed for Allah’s continued peace in the state and protection for those currently in custody.
