Bauchi State hosted the RAAMP Annual Retreat 2026, showcasing progress in rural roads, agro-logistic centres, and sustainable maintenance models. Learn how partnerships with EIB and IsDB will scale up rural development across Nigeria.
From 13th to 17th January 2026, Bauchi State proudly hosted the Annual Retreat of the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). The event brought together staff, consultants, and development partners to review progress, share lessons, and explore new opportunities for scaling up rural infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Honourable Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties, Hon. Farouk Mustapha, warmly welcomed participants. He emphasized Bauchi’s commitment to rural transformation and expressed gratitude that the state was chosen to host such a significant gathering.
Achievements Under RAAMP
Bauchi State has made remarkable progress in implementing RAAMP:
18 rural roads (356 km) under construction or completion
3 Agro-Logistic Centres at different stages of development
Establishment of the Rural Road Access Authority (RARA) and the State Road Fund (SRF), with leadership and office structures in place
These milestones highlight the state’s political will to improve connectivity, boost agricultural productivity, and enhance rural livelihoods.
A key innovation has been the adoption of a systematized road maintenance model, supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank.
The Annual Routine Maintenance Plan (ARMP) for 2026 is already in motion.
Work has commenced on 137 km of routine maintenance and 57 km of spot improvements.
This approach ensures sustainability, creates jobs, empowers communities, and fosters local ownership.
Bauchi’s progress has earned recognition from FPMU and development partners, leading to its inclusion in the RAAMP Scale-Up (RAAMP-SU). The state has already prioritized 300 km of rural roads for detailed engineering designs and is eager to collaborate with new partners such as the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
Hon. Farouk Mustapha encouraged participants to document challenges, share lessons, and explore partnerships that will benefit rural communities. He also invited guests to unwind and enjoy Bauchi’s hospitality — from local delicacies to iconic attractions like the Yankari Game Reserve and the Tomb of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister.
With these commitments and achievements, Bauchi State continues to position itself as a leader in rural development. The retreat not only reviewed progress but also set the stage for greater collaboration and impact in the years ahead. End
