Governor Bala Mohammed Joins Inaugural NEC Committee on Livestock Development

Abuja, Nigeria — Bauchi State Governor, His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has participated in the inaugural meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) Committee on Livestock Development, convened at the Kebbi Government Lodge in Abuja. 

Governor Mohammed, representing the North-East geopolitical zone, is part of the high-level committee constituted on 17th December 2025 by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chairman of the NEC. The committee’s mandate is to accelerate Nigeria’s livestock development programme and craft sustainable solutions to the long-standing farmer–herder crisis. 

Committee Composition

The committee is chaired by Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State (North-West) and includes governors representing all six geopolitical zones: 

North-East: Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State) 

North-Central: Governor Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger State) 

South-West: Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo State) 

South-East: Governor Hope Uzodimma (Imo State) 

South-South: Governor Bassey Otu (Cross River State) 

Following the meeting, a communiqué issued by Governor Idris emphasized that the engagement was strictly an inaugural session, designed to establish the framework for the committee’s assignment. 

Formation of a sub-committee tasked with technical and strategic engagements. 

Assurance that policy directions and detailed programmes will be unveiled after consultations with relevant federal ministries and stakeholders. 

The NEC Committee on Livestock Development is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing one of Nigeria’s most pressing socio-economic challenges. By ensuring regional representation and structured planning, the committee aims to balance agricultural productivity with pastoral livelihoods, while fostering peace and food security across the country.  End
