Drawing parallels between Nigeria and Malaysia, he highlighted their shared post-colonial resilience and praised Malaysia’s transformation into a multicultural knowledge economy as an inspiration for Nigeria’s own development journey. Lincoln University Nigeria Campus – A Bridge of InnovationThe Governor emphasized the significance of the Lincoln University College Nigeria Campus in Kumo, Gombe State, established through a pioneering public-private partnership. Secured foundational approval from Nigeria’s National Universities Commission (NUC). Impact: Offers world-class education locally, reduces the burden of overseas study, curbs brain drain, and nurtures home-grown talent. Governor Yahaya pledged to personally champion the success of this partnership, including sponsoring indigenous students from Gombe State to study at Lincoln University as a direct investment in human capital development. Transforming Education in Gombe StateSince assuming office in 2019, Governor Yahaya’s administration has made data-driven investments in education, with remarkable outcomes: Infrastructure: Over 2,000 classrooms constructed/renovated; five schools upgraded into mega centres of excellence. Teachers: 1,000 qualified teachers recruited. Access: More than 450,000 out-of-school children reintegrated. Curriculum Integration: Tsangaya Islamic centres established across all 11 LGAs, harmonizing Qur’anic and western education. Results: WAEC performance improved from 26% in 2019 to 78% in 2022 (students achieving five credits including English and Mathematics). Higher Education Expansion: Two new campuses for Gombe State University and a 1,000-capacity School of Nursing and Midwifery. Governor Yahaya described Lincoln University as a bridge linking Malaysian innovation with Nigerian aspiration, underscoring his administration’s commitment to building a future where education drives sustainable development. The Governor was accompanied to the convocation by a high-level delegation, including the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, senior officials, and representatives of Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Malaysia.
