When Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed was named a recipient of the 2026 Nigerian Oil and Gas Forum Award, it wasn’t just another plaque on the shelf—it was a recognition of how far Bauchi has come in carving out a place in Nigeria’s energy future.

The award, presented at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, highlighted two major achievements:

The establishment of the Bauchi State Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri, the first state-owned institution of its kind in Nigeria.

The state’s active role in the Kolmani oil exploration project, which promises energy sufficiency and new jobs for thousands of Nigerians.

Speaking through his Commissioner for Information, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman, Governor Mohammed emphasized that the oil and gas sector is more than just revenue—it’s about dialogue, innovation, and partnerships. He stressed the importance of local content development, capacity building, and a gradual transition to cleaner energy solutions.

For Bauchi, this recognition is symbolic. It positions the state not just as a participant but as a driver of Nigeria’s energy transformation. The Oil and Gas Academy is a bold step toward building local expertise, while Kolmani exploration signals that northern Nigeria is ready to play a bigger role in the country’s energy map.

The governor’s call for collaboration among governments, regulators, industry players, and host communities reflects a broader truth: Nigeria’s energy future will only be sustainable if it’s inclusive and resilient.

Bauchi’s academy could become a model for other states, ensuring Nigerians are trained for jobs in both traditional oil and emerging clean energy sectors.

Kolmani exploration isn’t just about oil—it’s about diversifying opportunities and creating employment.

Bala Mohammed’s emphasis on cleaner energy shows that even oil-rich states are thinking ahead to sustainability.
