The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, Ph.D., received massive support from dignitaries across Nigeria as he unveiled five new books while celebrating his 70th birthday at the Nigerian Air Force Conference and Events Centre, Abuja.
The publications launched at the event include:
A Sociology of Medical Practice
The Unseen Hand
The Destroying Strangers
A Man of Letters
Towards Enhanced Effectiveness in Organisations
Speakers described the works as significant contributions to scholarship and policy development, reflecting Dr. Jatau’s intellectual depth and commitment to nation-building.
The ceremony drew governors, deputy governors, technocrats, academics, business leaders, and retired military officers. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, represented by Secretary to the State Government Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, praised Dr. Jatau as a “dependable pillar” of the administration.
Prof. Attahiru Jega, former INEC Chairman, chaired the occasion and commended the Deputy Governor’s prolific writing, calling the books “reflections of a lifetime devoted to creative thinking and documentation.”
The event was marked by generous donations in support of the books:
₦30 million from Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal of AFDIN Group
₦20 million from Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State
₦2.5 million from Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo
Additional contributions from senators, commissioners, business leaders, and institutions, with several purchasing copies for distribution.
In his address, Dr. Jatau attributed his achievements to divine grace and emphasized the importance of collective societal development. He explained his decision to celebrate 70 years as a Biblically significant milestone and urged Nigerian politicians to consider stepping aside at that age to allow younger generations to lead.
He also reflected on his “accidental” political journey, noting that he had never contested for elective office but was invited to serve as running mate to Governor Yahaya.
The twin celebration — a milestone birthday and the unveiling of five scholarly works — highlighted Dr. Jatau’s dual legacy as a public servant and intellectual. The strong turnout and financial support underscored his influence across political, academic, and business circles. End
