The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has called for urgent federal intervention following a deadly bandit attack on communities in Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.The governor made the appeal during a sympathy visit to Kafin Duguri, where suspected bandits recently launched a violent assault that left several residents dead and many others injured.Speaking during the visit, Governor Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and stressed that security agencies currently require improved weapons, logistics, and operational support to effectively confront the growing threat of banditry.He disclosed that he had already briefed Bola Ahmed Tinubu during an official visit to Abuja. According to the governor, the President conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.Governor Mohammed praised the courage and resilience of the people of Kafin Duguri, noting that their collective resistance forced the attackers to retreat.“Your courage saved this community,” the governor declared, commending the residents for defending their ancestral homeland where agriculture remains their primary source of livelihood.While noting that banditry has been largely contained in many parts of Bauchi State, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring complete peace in Duguri and surrounding communities.As part of immediate measures, he announced plans to recruit and train additional local vigilantes in collaboration with security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police, to strengthen grassroots security architecture.He also assured that the Bauchi State Government has taken full responsibility for the medical treatment of all injured victims.Governor Bala Mohammed offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives and urged residents to remain united, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies as efforts intensify to secure the area.Earlier, the Emir of Duguri, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad, expressed gratitude to the governor for the visit, describing the attack as a painful setback for the community. He called for sustained security deployment and stronger government intervention to prevent future occurrences and ensure lasting peace.
