Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reiterated his commitment to inclusive democracy and equitable representation, declaring support for the quest by stakeholders from Yamaltu/Deba to produce the next senator for Gombe Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections. The Governor made the pledge while receiving a broad-based delegation from Yamaltu/Deba at the Government House in Gombe. The delegation comprised traditional rulers, community leaders, politicians across party lines, technocrats, as well as youth and women groups. The group formally presented a request seeking the Governor’s backing for the rotation of the senatorial seat to Yamaltu/Deba in the spirit of fairness and balanced representation within the district.Governor Assures Positive ResponseResponding to the appeal, Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured the delegation that their demand would receive careful and favourable consideration within the bounds of democratic practice.“I assure you that I will take the necessary steps to ensure that you get equity, fairness and justice; not only in your LGA, but across Gombe State and indeed Nigeria. By the grace of God, this time around, your aspiration will receive a positive outcome all the way,” the Governor said.He emphasized that democracy must reflect the will of the people, stressing that inclusivity remains central to his administration’s governance philosophy.“Democracy is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. In strengthening our democratic culture, we have embraced a rotational understanding that ensures every group feels included,” he added.Alignment with Party LeadershipGovernor Inuwa Yahaya further noted that both the government and the ruling All Progressives Congress are aligned with the principles behind the request, describing the agitation as legitimate and well-founded.He commended the delegation for formally documenting their appeal and addressing it to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who serves as leader of the party, as well as the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.Lessons from Past Political RotationDrawing parallels with earlier political developments in the state, the Governor recalled how unity and adherence to democratic principles shaped the trajectory of the Gombe South Senatorial District, urging Yamaltu/Deba stakeholders to remain united, peaceful and law-abiding as they pursue their aspiration.Stakeholders Present Case for EquityEarlier, key figures in the delegation—including Inuwa Garba, state lawmakers Adamu Pata and Muhammad Kabir Kuri, as well as the Chairman of Yamaltu/Deba Local Government, Abubakar Hassan Difa—argued strongly for the rotation of the senatorial seat to their area.Traditional rulers, including the Emir of Yamaltu, Abubakar Aliyu, and the Emir of Deba, Ahmed Usman, also lent their voices to the call, stressing that the seat has remained in Akko for an extended period. They maintained that rotating the position would promote fairness, strengthen unity, and deepen democratic participation across Gombe State.
