Bauchi State is turning the tide against banditry and kidnapping. Governor Bala Mohammed has announced major breakthroughs following a closed‑door State Security Council meeting at Government House, Bauchi, attended by security chiefs, traditional rulers, and local government chairmen. Security forces have dismantled criminal hideouts in the notorious Dajin Madam Forest corridor, long considered a sanctuary for bandits. Coordinated operations involving the military, DSS, police, and vigilante groups have: Neutralized bandits in large numbers Destroyed camps and logistics networks Cut supply routes, forcing criminals to flee Governor Mohammed declared: “These criminals had established deep roots within the forests. Today, their camps have been destroyed and their networks disrupted.”The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and national security agencies for their “monumental intervention”, noting that joint task force operations supported by aerial surveillance have significantly weakened criminal elements across Bauchi and neighboring states. With improved security, displaced persons can now begin returning home. The state has assured: Continuous aerial surveillance Rapid response mechanisms Strong security presence to prevent regrouping Governor Mohammed clarified that while a temporary surrender window exists, this is not amnesty. “It is an opportunity for those willing to abandon violence to do so within the confines of the law.” Any attempt to regroup will be met with decisive force. To consolidate gains, Bauchi State has introduced: Suspension of cattle markets in vulnerable areas Regulation of motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles Strengthened surveillance in motor parks and rural corridors In collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission, Bauchi will begin biometric profiling in vulnerable communities to: Track population movement Eliminate ungoverned spaces Prevent re‑establishment of criminal camps Governor Mohammed emphasized that security is a collective responsibility. Citizens are urged to provide timely intelligence, while traditional rulers and local authorities must intensify grassroots surveillance in cattle markets, motor parks, and border communities. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to: – Protecting lives and property – Strengthening vigilante structures – Sustaining collaboration with federal authorities > “We are winning, but we must not relent. The goal is total peace, stability, and lasting development across Bauchi State.”
