Bauchi, Nigeria — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has constituted a high-powered consultative committee to address lingering internal disagreements and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.The decision was reached during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, which was held behind closed doors at the Government House, Bauchi.Committee to Chart Political DirectionBriefing members of the press after the meeting, the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Pharmacist Samaila Adamu Burga, disclosed that stakeholders unanimously agreed to constitute a strong reconciliation and consultative committee chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed.According to Burga, the committee has been mandated to consult widely across the party structure and recommend practical solutions to resolve disputes and provide a clear political direction for the PDP in the state.“The committee has been given one week to engage with relevant stakeholders, analyse the issues affecting the party, and submit recommendations that will guide our next line of action,” he said.The state chairman acknowledged that persistent internal disagreements had created uncertainty among aspirants and party members, making it necessary for the leadership to intervene early to avoid deeper divisions before the commencement of party primaries.He explained that the initiative reflects the party’s determination to maintain cohesion, prevent defections, and strengthen internal democracy as the political landscape begins to take shape ahead of 2027.Responding to speculation about possible defections by aggrieved members, Burga said it would be premature to comment until the committee concludes its assignment, maintaining that the PDP in Bauchi remains united and focused.“The party is still one and speaking with one voice. The committee’s recommendations will help consolidate that unity and provide the needed direction moving forward,” he added.Strategic Move to Strengthen Party UnityThe formation of the committee is widely seen as a proactive step by the Bauchi PDP leadership to resolve internal differences and ensure a united front ahead of the party’s primary elections and other critical political activities leading to the 2027 general elections.With Governor Bala Mohammed personally leading the reconciliation effort, the party is signalling strong commitment to internal stability, consensus-building, and the protection of its electoral strength in the state.
