BAUCHI, November 3, 2026 — As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has issued a strong warning to members of his administration against allowing political campaigns to overshadow their constitutional responsibilities to the people.
The Governor declared that the approaching elections must neither bring governance to a standstill nor provide an excuse for abandoning ongoing development projects, weakening public service delivery or compromising accountability.
Speaking during the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed reminded commissioners and other senior government officials that the administration’s mandate remains valid until the expiration of its tenure in 2027.
He stressed that the remaining months of his administration should be devoted to consolidating achievements, completing critical infrastructure projects and strengthening the institutions of governance rather than surrendering government activities to the pressures of electioneering.
“The Ultimate Campaign Is the Legacy We Leave Behind”
In what could be described as a defining message to his cabinet as the political transition approaches, Governor Mohammed maintained that the true measure of any administration lies not merely in its political victories but in the lasting impact of its policies and programmes on the lives of ordinary citizens.
“The temptation during political transition periods is to shift all our energy towards campaigns. But we must remember that the ultimate campaign is the legacy we leave behind,” he declared.
The Governor observed that although political activities would naturally intensify across the state, government officials must distinguish between their political interests and their responsibilities as public officeholders.
He warned that the machinery of government must continue functioning effectively, irrespective of the political atmosphere.
“We must not allow the forthcoming election to distract us from our official responsibilities or slow down the machinery of government,” he stated.
According to him, the State Executive Council must remain committed to rigorous policy formulation, effective implementation and meaningful public service reforms, without allowing political considerations to interfere with its responsibilities.
Governor Demands Urgent Completion of Roads, Hospitals and Other Projects
Turning his attention to the administration’s development agenda, Governor Mohammed directed relevant ministries, departments and agencies to intensify efforts towards completing ongoing capital projects across Bauchi State.
He specifically identified road infrastructure, healthcare, education and agricultural interventions as critical areas requiring urgent attention.
The Governor expressed concern over bureaucratic delays and warned against complacency among officials entrusted with implementing government programmes.
“Time is of the essence. We cannot afford bureaucratic delays or a lackadaisical attitude to our responsibilities,” he cautioned.
He emphasised that the remaining period of the administration should be characterised by measurable results, accelerated project execution and responsible management of public resources.
The directive signals the Governor’s determination to ensure that projects initiated under his administration are pursued vigorously rather than abandoned as attention shifts towards the next electoral contest.
No Room for Financial Recklessness or Abuse of Due Process
Governor Mohammed also issued a warning against financial indiscipline, particularly during the politically sensitive period preceding the general elections.
He directed government officials to uphold public procurement regulations, financial procedures, stores regulations and established accountability mechanisms.
According to him, the administration must avoid the temptation of compromising due process under the guise of completing projects before the expiration of its tenure.
He insisted that transparency and accountability must remain central to government operations.
“We must leave behind an administration defined by transparency and accountability, not one characterised by last-minute lapses in due process,” the Governor declared.
He further urged council members to critically examine budget performance and take decisive steps to ensure that available resources are effectively deployed towards achieving the administration’s priorities.
2027: Governor Draws Red Line Against Political Violence
On security, Governor Mohammed warned that the approaching election season must not become an opportunity for political thuggery, intimidation or activities capable of undermining peace and stability in Bauchi State.
He acknowledged the contributions of security agencies towards improving safety in communities and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting their operations.
The Governor disclosed that government would continue assisting security formations through the renovation of accommodation facilities, provision of operational vehicles and funding for fuel and other essential logistics.
He nevertheless stressed that security agencies must remain impartial in the discharge of their duties, particularly as political competition intensifies.
“We will tolerate no breach of peace, no political thuggery and no disruption of the stability of our dear state,” he warned.
Governor Mohammed called on members of the State Executive Council and security authorities to remain vigilant against emerging threats that could destabilise communities or interfere with lawful political activities.
He maintained that the protection of lives and property must remain a priority throughout the electoral period.
Finishing Strong: Bala Mohammed Sets Agenda for Final Months
Reflecting on the approaching end of his administration, Governor Mohammed reminded cabinet members that the conclusion of a government’s tenure is as important as its beginning.
He challenged them to demonstrate renewed commitment, discipline and determination in carrying out their assignments.
“History remembers how an administration finishes, not merely how it begins,” he stated.
The Governor urged officials to use the remaining months to consolidate achievements, safeguard the administration’s development legacy and justify the confidence reposed in the government by the people of Bauchi State.
His remarks also underscored the importance of maintaining a clear distinction between the responsibilities of governance and the demands of partisan political mobilisation.
Governance Beyond the Ballot
With the 2027 elections approaching, Governor Mohammed’s message places renewed responsibility on members of his cabinet to demonstrate that effective governance can continue even in the midst of intense political competition.
For residents of Bauchi State, the practical test of that commitment will be the pace of project completion, continued delivery of essential services, prudent management of public funds and preservation of peace throughout the transition period.
The Governor’s declaration therefore sets a benchmark against which the administration’s performance during its remaining months can be assessed.
For Governor Bala Mohammed, the message to his cabinet is unmistakable: political campaigns may intensify, but the business of governing Bauchi State must continue.
