In Gombe State, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has broken new grounds in the health sector with the full implementation of the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures for health workers — a reform hailed as historic and unprecedented.

Renewed Hope for Health Workers

Across hospitals, clinics, and primary health centres, the new salary structures have:

Rekindled hope and boosted morale among doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.

Restored confidence in the state’s public health system.

Signaled recognition of the sacrifices made by frontline workers.

Widespread Commendations

The reform has drawn massive cheers and appreciation from unions and professional associations:

JOHESU: Called the decision “historic,” restoring hope and smiles to healthcare workers.

NMA (Gombe Chapter): Praised the measure for curbing brain drain and strengthening healthcare delivery.

ARD: Described it as a “new dawn” for doctors long awaiting recognition.

PSN: Commended the Governor for complementing salary reforms with infrastructural improvements.

NSP: Highlighted the boost to multidisciplinary collaboration and patient outcomes.

AMLSN: Celebrated it as “promise made, promise fulfilled.”

Society of Community Health Technology: Applauded the Governor’s compassion and vision for primary healthcare.

Impact on Gombe’s Health System

With improved remuneration now in place, the reform is expected to:

Attract and retain skilled professionals.

Reinforce the clinical workforce.

Support Gombe’s ambition to achieve universal health coverage.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s action fulfills a pledge made during the maiden Gombe State Health Summit earlier this year, marking a milestone in his administration’s commitment to building a functional, efficient, and resilient health system through sustained reforms, workforce development, infrastructural expansion, and robust health insurance programmes.
