The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba Umar, has inaugurated the Imam Shu’aibu Yisin Council of Ulamah Islamic Centre in Bununu, headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, as part of efforts to strengthen unity among Muslims and support community development.Speaking during the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, the senator said the centre was established to bring together Islamic scholars and followers from different groups to promote unity, understanding, and cooperation within the Muslim community.According to him, the centre will serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among Islamic scholars, helping to promote peace, mutual respect, and meaningful development in society.Senator Shehu Buba noted that since assuming office in the Nigerian Senate, he has remained committed to effective representation through programmes and projects aimed at improving the welfare of communities across the seven local government areas of Bauchi South.He explained that the centre houses several functional units, including departments responsible for inheritance matters, reconciliation, and other services designed to support Islamic teachings and promote community harmony.The senator said the project was initiated following requests from Islamic scholars across various organisations who sought the establishment of a central meeting point to strengthen unity and understanding among Muslims.He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the project from the beginning of construction to its completion and prayed that the centre would serve as a catalyst for the growth and development of Islam in the area.Development InterventionsSenator Shehu Buba also highlighted some of his interventions since becoming a senator, including programmes focused on women and youth empowerment, job creation initiatives, healthcare support, agricultural assistance, and other development projects aimed at improving livelihoods across the district.N200 Million ProjectEarlier, the chairman of the building committee, Aminu Tukur, commended the senator for sponsoring the project from inception to completion.He revealed that the Islamic centre consists of 12 offices, a conference hall, a guest house with nine rooms, a store, and a shopping complex containing six shops, among other facilities.According to him, the project cost about ₦200 million and was fully funded by Senator Shehu Buba.Condolence Over Alkaleri AttacksDuring the event, the senator also extended condolences to residents of Alkaleri Local Government Area over the recent bandit attacks in the area, describing the incident as deeply disturbing.He noted that communities such as Mansur, Digare, Gwana, and Yalo were seriously affected, stressing that insecurity remains a challenge that concerns everyone.Senator Shehu Buba assured that he would work closely with the Bauchi State Government and security agencies to curb the activities of bandits in the affected communities.He also disclosed plans to establish a special committee to explore ways of providing support to the affected communities, particularly those currently displaced in Kashere.N20 Million Support for Health CollegeIn a related development, the senator donated ₦20 million towards the construction of the permanent site of the College of Health Sciences and Technology Bununu.The donation was announced during the foundation-laying ceremony of the institution’s permanent site, where the senator reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising education and healthcare as key drivers of sustainable development.
