The Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors Association (ACIPA) strongly condemns, in its entirety, the barbaric road blockade and the senseless killing of innocent passers-by in Barki-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on 23rd February 2026.Speaking on behalf of the Association, the Chairman of ACIPA, Rev. Luke Shehu, described the attack as “a cruel and unjustifiable act against innocent citizens whose only ‘offence’ was being at the wrong place at the wrong time.”“No grievance, no history of conflict, and no act of reprisal can ever justify the deliberate targeting and execution of unarmed civilians,” he stated firmly. The reported revenge attack, allegedly carried out following the killing of indigenous Berom kinsmen by Fulani militias, has only deepened the wounds of an already fragile community. Retaliatory violence perpetuates a tragic cycle that destroys lives, erodes trust, and undermines the rule of law.ACIPA mourns the tragic loss of:Uwaisu SunusiZakari BelloZubairu Abdul KarimShamsu Musa — all residents of Gangare, JosIbrahim of Ali Kazaure, Jos“These were fathers, sons, brothers, and breadwinners,” Rev. Luke Shehu added. “They deserved protection, not execution. Their lives mattered.”The Association also acknowledged with gratitude the survival of Abdul Aleem Ibrahim of Gangare, Jos, with whom it has personally spoken following the tragic incident, and prayed for his full and speedy recovery.ACIPA extends its deepest condolences to the grieving families, the Hausa/Muslim community, and all who have been shaken by this tragedy. May the Almighty grant the deceased eternal rest, comfort their loved ones, and bring healing to the affected communities. The Chairman further called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, ensure that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted, and restore public confidence in lawful protection for all residents, irrespective of ethnicity or faith.“Plateau State — and indeed Nigeria — must not descend further into cycles of vengeance. Peace is not weakness. Peace is strength,” Rev. Luke Shehu emphasized.
