The Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya (Dr.) Aisha Bala Mohammed, has combined financial support for 2,800 young people with a call on nursing students to stay focused on their education and help colleagues facing hardship.
At a one-day youth awareness programme held at Rilwanu Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi, 2,800 young people drawn from the state’s 20 local government areas each received ₦30,000. The support totalled ₦84 million.
The programme focused on the dangers of drug abuse, good citizenship and the importance of positive values in building a brighter future. Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), female government officials and other stakeholders attended.
In a separate engagement at her office, Dr. Aisha received the leadership of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Aliko Dangote School of Nursing, Bauchi. She urged the students to remain committed to their studies and sustain initiatives that assist colleagues experiencing financial and other difficulties.
She also stressed the importance of unity, personal and environmental hygiene, and public awareness of disease prevention and control. The First Lady encouraged the union to manage its funds responsibly and consider establishing a savings scheme to support members after graduation.
Dr. Aisha thanked the students for the recognition accorded to her and wished them academic success.
Earlier, SUG President Comrade Ibrahim Kabir Muhammad said the delegation visited to express appreciation to the First Lady and reaffirm its support for the Bauchi State Government.
He cited government interventions at the institution, including the construction of a perimeter fence to improve security, provision of a modern student hostel and an increase in students’ monthly allowances.
Muhammad said the union honoured the First Lady in recognition of her contributions to the welfare of women, children, young people and persons with special needs.
