BAUCHI — In a development that brings renewed attention to Bauchi State’s representation in national sports journalism, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appointed Alhaji Usman Abbas Shehu as a member of its prestigious National Media, Publicity and Marketing Committee.
The appointment represents an important professional recognition for the Bauchi State Chapter representative, who is expected to contribute to strengthening the association’s national visibility, strategic communications, media engagement and institutional partnerships.
The appointment was conveyed in an official letter dated October 9, 2026, issued by the SWAN National Secretariat and signed by its Secretary-General, Ikenna Okonkwo, ANIPR.
According to the letter, the decision reflects the confidence reposed in Alhaji Usman Abbas Shehu’s professional experience and his capacity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the association’s communication and publicity objectives.
The National Secretariat explained that the committee was established to strengthen SWAN’s media relations, publicity, strategic communications, institutional visibility and marketing initiatives.
As a member of the committee, Usman Abbas Shehu is expected to participate actively in developing innovative communication strategies, promoting the association’s activities and achievements, supporting the dissemination of official information and strengthening relationships with relevant stakeholders.
His responsibilities will also extend to publicity campaigns, digital media initiatives, partnership development and other approved programmes designed to advance the objectives and interests of SWAN.
The appointment further places him among those entrusted with supporting the association’s communication and promotional activities at the national level.
In its letter, the National Secretariat emphasised the importance of professionalism, teamwork and institutional loyalty, urging the appointee to collaborate effectively with the committee chairman and other members in achieving the association’s objectives.
The appointment takes effect from October 9, 2026, subject to the approved terms of reference and duration of the committee.
The letter also conveyed the congratulations and esteemed regards of the SWAN National President, Isaiah Benjamin.
