In a gesture that places the spotlight on the often-overlooked contributions of grassroots entertainers to political communication, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Bauchi State Governor, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, has extended financial assistance totalling ₦400,000 to four praise singers associated with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the Governor’s praise singers’ association popularly known as Kabasiya, received ₦100,000 each in what represents another demonstration of Gidado’s commitment to recognising and encouraging individuals who contribute to public engagement through music and entertainment.
Those who benefited from the gesture include Mai Jitan Kaura, Liman Gololo, KB Glove FM and Aminu Tambura.
While political communication is often dominated by speeches, official statements and media campaigns, traditional praise singers have continued to occupy a distinctive space in grassroots mobilisation, using music and cultural expressions to connect political leaders with communities.
It is within this context that Gidado’s intervention carries significance beyond its monetary value.
The financial support acknowledges the role of entertainers whose performances help communicate political messages, sustain public enthusiasm and promote awareness of government activities among diverse audiences.
For Gidado, a veteran journalist and experienced public communication strategist, the gesture is consistent with his reputation for supporting individuals and groups whose contributions to society may not always attract public recognition.
Beyond the immediate beneficiaries, the initiative draws attention to the need for greater recognition of creative talents operating at the grassroots, particularly those whose artistic contributions form part of the wider political and cultural landscape of Bauchi State.
At a time when political activities are gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the gesture also underscores the enduring relationship between political communication, cultural expression and community engagement.
For the four beneficiaries, the ₦400,000 intervention represents financial encouragement. For the wider creative community, it reinforces a simple message: contributions made beyond the corridors of political power also deserve recognition.
