Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has renewed hope for improved healthcare delivery in Billiri Local Government Area, revealing that his administration has already initiated steps towards addressing the deteriorating condition of Billiri General Hospital, one of the critical healthcare facilities serving the Tangale community.
The Governor made the disclosure while receiving a delegation of the Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA), which visited Government House, Gombe, to express appreciation for ongoing developmental interventions and draw government attention to other pressing needs of the area.
In what could signal a major breakthrough for residents seeking improved medical services, Governor Inuwa Yahaya disclosed that a committee constituted to assess the condition of Billiri General Hospital had already visited the facility as part of preliminary efforts towards its proposed reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The development underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services across communities in Gombe State.
The delegation, led by the Chairperson of Billiri Local Government Area, Hon. Egla Idris, included the Secretary of TCDA, Mr. Reuben A. Bauna, who represented the Association’s President, Comrade Danladi Bako, and its Legal Adviser, Maigari A. Lakata, Esq.
During the engagement, the Tangale community representatives expressed appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his administration’s infrastructure interventions, particularly the award of road construction projects across Billiri Local Government Area.
Among the projects highlighted was the strategic road linking the College of Education to the Mai Tangale Palace, alongside other road projects designed to improve connectivity and facilitate socioeconomic activities within the area.
The delegation described the interventions as important contributions to the development of Tangale communities and acknowledged the Governor’s responsiveness to infrastructure needs.
However, beyond expressing appreciation, the association used the opportunity to present additional development priorities requiring urgent government attention.
Top among these was the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Billiri General Hospital, whose improvement the delegation identified as essential to meeting the growing healthcare needs of residents.
The association also raised concerns about rural road infrastructure and security, stressing the importance of sustained government intervention in improving accessibility, protecting lives and property, and strengthening economic opportunities.
Responding, Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured the delegation that his administration remained committed to addressing legitimate development concerns across the state.
He explained that the government had already taken preliminary action on Billiri General Hospital through the constitution of an assessment committee, which had undertaken an inspection visit to the facility.
The Governor’s disclosure provided an indication that the hospital’s condition was receiving official attention, although no specific commencement date for rehabilitation work was announced.
He equally gave assurances that other issues presented by the delegation, particularly rural road development and security, would receive government attention.
The engagement further highlighted the importance of collaboration between community development associations and government institutions in identifying priorities, promoting accountability and ensuring that public investments respond to the needs of citizens.
Also among the delegation was Associate Professor Ali Madina Dankumo of the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Federal University of Kashere.
The visit reflects the continuing engagement between the Tangale community and the Gombe State Government on development priorities, with renewed expectations surrounding the future of Billiri General Hospital and other essential infrastructure.
For residents of Billiri and surrounding communities, attention will now turn to the outcome of the government’s hospital assessment and the concrete measures that may follow.
