As Newsroom at the organisation’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, an innovative facility designed to integrate print, television, radio and digital journalism into a unified multimedia operation.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Governor described the development as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s media transformation, commending Media Trust Group for demonstrating the courage, foresight and institutional commitment required to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven information environment.
He stressed that the future of journalism must be anchored on a productive partnership between human expertise and technological advancement rather than the replacement of journalists by machines.
“Journalists must take advantage of technology to improve their work, but they must not allow technology to take over their functions. Rather, they should use it to simplify processes, improve efficiency and strengthen the quality of their output,” the Governor declared.
According to him, journalism remains an indispensable pillar of democratic governance, public accountability and national development, making it imperative for media professionals to preserve accuracy, objectivity and credibility regardless of the technological platforms available to them.
GOVERNOR CHAMPIONS AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION, CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS
Beyond technological innovation, Governor Inuwa Yahaya challenged Media Trust Group and other Nigerian media organisations to reposition journalism as a powerful instrument for agricultural transformation, environmental sustainability and food security.
He specifically urged the organisation to devote greater editorial attention to educating farmers and rural communities on modern agricultural techniques, climate-smart farming practices and sustainable food production.
The Governor observed that agriculture remains central to the economic survival of millions of Nigerians, particularly in Northern Nigeria, where outdated farming methods, environmental challenges and changing climatic conditions continue to affect productivity.
He maintained that consistent media enlightenment could help farmers adopt improved agricultural practices, increase productivity and strengthen their contribution to national food security.
The Governor further acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Gombe State Government and Media Trust Group, assuring the organisation of his administration’s readiness to sustain and deepen the partnership.
SENATE DEPUTY PRESIDENT HAILS MEDIA TRUST’S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
In his remarks, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, applauded Media Trust Group for embracing innovation and demonstrating leadership in the changing media industry.
He described the establishment of the converged newsroom as a forward-looking initiative that reflects the organisation’s determination to adapt to new realities while maintaining its relevance in Nigeria’s information ecosystem.
Senator Barau noted that technological advancement has fundamentally altered the production, distribution and consumption of news, making institutional innovation increasingly necessary for media organisations seeking to remain competitive.
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PRESS FREEDOM
Also speaking, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, commended the founder of Media Trust Group, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, for his vision, consistency and dedication to building a respected media institution.
The Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to press freedom, responsible journalism and an enabling environment for professional media practice.
He emphasised that journalism remains an essential public service that must be guided by accuracy, accountability, fairness and professional ethics.
Mohammed Idris challenged Media Trust Group to transform the newly inaugurated facility into a centre of excellence capable of setting new benchmarks for technological innovation, ethical reporting and meaningful public engagement.
ONE NEWSROOM, MULTIPLE PLATFORMS: A NEW ERA FOR MEDIA TRUST
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Media Trust Group described the converged newsroom as a pioneering initiative, presenting it as the first of its kind in West Africa.
He explained that the facility was designed to promote collaboration among journalists, strengthen editorial coordination and improve the organisation’s responsiveness to changing audience demands.
Under the new arrangement, the editorial operations of Daily Trust, Weekend Trust, Aminiya, Teen Trust, Trust TV, Trust Radio and Digital Trust are integrated into a unified system.
The innovation is expected to enhance newsroom collaboration, reduce duplication of editorial processes, accelerate news delivery and enable journalists to produce content efficiently for multiple platforms.
The facility also incorporates audience data and modern digital tools to strengthen engagement with readers, viewers and listeners.
MEDIA TRUST APPRECIATES GOMBE, OTHER PARTNER STATES
In his vote of thanks, the Group Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief, Ahmed Shekarau, expressed appreciation to the Gombe State Government and other state governments for their sustained relationships with Media Trust Group.
He explained that the invitation extended to Gombe, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe and Taraba States reflected the organisation’s appreciation of the longstanding and mutually beneficial partnerships it enjoys with the respective governments.
Shekarau assured stakeholders, advertisers, audiences and development partners that Media Trust would continue investing in innovation, institutional capacity and service improvement to meet emerging demands within the media industry.
The unveiling of the converged newsroom represents another important chapter in the evolution of Nigerian journalism, particularly as traditional media organisations confront the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence, digital convergence and changing audience behaviour.
For Governor Inuwa Yahaya, however, the central message remains unmistakable: technology must empower journalists, not replace their professional judgment; innovation must strengthen credibility, not compromise it; and journalism must continue serving society through responsible information, public education and accountability.
