The political landscape in Bauchi State has recorded another notable realignment following the formal defection of former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdulmalik Mahmood, to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed received the former Deputy Governor into the APM fold, welcoming his decision to identify with the party as political consultations and movements continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alhaji Abdulmalik Mahmood is a veteran political figure who has remained involved in the political affairs of Bauchi State over the years. He was an aspirant in the Bauchi State governorship race in 2007 and has maintained political engagement with stakeholders across the state.
He later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, where he continued his political activities before his latest move to the APM.
His defection adds another prominent political figure to the APM as parties, politicians and stakeholders reposition themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Receiving Mahmood, Governor Bala Mohammed described his entry into the party as a significant development, pointing to the former Deputy Governor’s political experience, pedigree and longstanding relationship with the people of Bauchi State.
Also present to receive the former Deputy Governor was the APM governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.
The development comes amid continuing consultations and political movements across Bauchi State as parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
