By Abdulwahab Muhammad SSA Communication to Governor Bala of Bauchi State
Bauchi, Nigeria — December 12, 2025
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency as the government prepares to roll out the first phase of its ambitious 10,000 civil service recruitment program.
In a closed-door session with political leaders and administrative stakeholders, Governor Bala emphasized that the exercise must be free from favoritism and political interference. He revealed that the Head of Service had identified 214 job categories with 5,669 vacancies ready to be filled across ministries and agencies.
“Only a transparent and collectively-owned process can guarantee fairness for young graduates and ordinary citizens who lack political connections,” the governor stated.
The governor assured that the remaining positions would be completed next year, fulfilling his pledge to expand opportunities for Bauchi’s unemployed youth.
Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, described the engagement as a reflection of Bala’s inclusive governance style. He noted that representatives from all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) were invited to shape recruitment guidelines—an exercise the governor could have set alone.
Meanwhile, the recruitment portal created by the state ICT Bureau has already attracted thousands of applications, signaling strong public interest in what the government hopes will be its most transparent hiring exercise to date.
Context & Implications
Youth Empowerment: With Bauchi facing high unemployment, the initiative could ease pressure on graduates seeking opportunities.
Political Integrity: Bala’s insistence on fairness challenges Nigeria’s entrenched patronage system, potentially reshaping public service recruitment norms.
Governance Model:The exercise may serve as a model for other states, showcasing how technology and stakeholder engagement can strengthen trust in government.
