BAUCHI, October 11, 2026 — Thousands of retired civil servants in Bauchi State are set to benefit from the next phase of the government’s gratuity payment exercise as the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed announces the commencement of payments to the 2014 batch of pensioners on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The development follows the initial release of ₦10 billion by the state government to address the longstanding backlog of gratuities owed to retired workers at both the state and local government levels.
According to an official statement issued by the High-Powered Committee on the Verification and Payment of the Backlog of Gratuities, payments covering the 2012 and 2013 batches have been successfully completed, paving the way for the continuation of the exercise.
The committee disclosed that the next phase would commence with pensioners belonging to the 2014 batch, while subsequent payments would be carried out in batches covering eligible retirees up to 2016.
The exercise will take place at two designated payment centres: the State Audit Office for state government pensioners and the Local Government Audit Office for local government retirees.
The committee urged affected pensioners to remain calm, exercise patience and cooperate with officials responsible for verification and payment to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise.
It further reassured retirees that the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed remains committed to addressing outstanding gratuity obligations and ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements.
The government maintained that the exercise would be conducted transparently and systematically, with emphasis on proper verification, accountability and timely disbursement.
For many retirees who have awaited payment of their gratuities for years, the continuation of the exercise represents another step towards resolving longstanding retirement benefit obligations.
The committee reaffirmed that the government would continue taking necessary measures to clear the backlog at both state and local government levels.
PENSIONERS’ NOTICE
Eligible retirees in the 2014 batch are advised that the payment exercise resumes on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the designated State Audit and Local Government Audit offices. Subsequent batches will cover pensioners up to 2016, in accordance with the committee’s payment arrangements.
