Bala Mohammed, Peter Obi Join Makinde as Opposition Leaders Preach Common National Purpose

The political atmosphere ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections gathered fresh momentum in Abuja as Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, joined prominent political leaders and stakeholders at the official commissioning of the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office.
The high-profile gathering brought together leading figures from different political backgrounds, with discussions centred on leadership, accountability, economic hardship and the need to offer Nigerians a new direction.
One of the major highlights of the event was the presence of Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), at the campaign office of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential ticket.
Although belonging to a different political party, Obi’s participation gave the occasion a broader political significance, as speakers emphasised cooperation across party lines on matters concerning Nigeria’s future.
Speaking at the event, Obi said political differences should not prevent leaders from working towards a common national purpose.
He maintained that despite operating on different political platforms, leaders represented at the gathering shared concerns about Nigeria’s challenges and the need to improve the lives of its citizens.
According to him, the gathering demonstrated that political competition does not necessarily have to prevent dialogue and cooperation in the national interest.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also a leading figure in the APM, described the event as part of a wider movement to provide Nigerians with leadership anchored on accountability, responsibility and responsiveness to the needs of the people.
The Bauchi Governor reiterated his call for a “Reset Nigeria”, saying the vision represents the determination to change the country’s leadership trajectory and restore public confidence in governance.
He stressed that Nigerians are yearning for leadership that understands their difficulties and is prepared to provide practical solutions rather than merely making promises.
Governor Mohammed said the task before political leaders must go beyond winning elections to building institutions, strengthening accountability and ensuring that government delivers tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
Also speaking, the APM Presidential Candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, said Nigerians deserve better and should be adequately informed and carried along in policies and decisions that directly affect their lives.
Makinde said Nigeria’s abundant human and natural resources should translate into better living conditions for its citizens.
He specifically questioned why citizens of an oil-producing country should continue to struggle with the accessibility and affordability of petroleum products, stressing that Nigeria must manage its resources in a manner that directly benefits its people.
The APM presidential candidate assured that the Makinde/Daura campaign would prioritise policies addressing the everyday concerns of Nigerians, including the cost of living and effective management of the country’s resources.
He said the campaign would take its message directly to Nigerians and engage citizens on the kind of leadership and policies required to move the country forward.
Makinde thereafter formally commissioned the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office, opening another chapter in the APM’s mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Beyond the commissioning itself, the presence of prominent figures from different political platforms provided one of the strongest talking points from the event, signalling a willingness among some opposition leaders to maintain dialogue despite their partisan differences.
With political activities gathering momentum ahead of 2027, the Abuja gathering has further placed the Makinde/Daura presidential campaign and the broader conversation around opposition cooperation in the national political spotlight.
