In a demonstration of the growing influence of women in community development and grassroots political participation, women from Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State have taken centre stage in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, combining humanitarian assistance, economic empowerment and political mobilization in support of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The women, operating under the umbrella of Alkaleri Women for APM Support and Mobilization, organized a charity and empowerment programme at the Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi, bringing together women leaders, political stakeholders, community representatives and party supporters.
Beyond political engagement, the gathering provided an opportunity to demonstrate the important role women play in promoting social welfare, supporting vulnerable members of society and strengthening community solidarity through charitable donations and empowerment assistance.
Declaring the programme open, the First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, applauded the organizers for their initiative, describing women’s active involvement in humanitarian activities and community development as an important contribution to the progress of society.
She commended the women of Alkaleri for demonstrating solidarity, compassion and commitment to the development of their communities, while acknowledging their continued support for the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The First Lady emphasized the importance of women’s participation in governance and democratic activities, noting that their contributions extend beyond the home to economic advancement, community leadership and political development.
She urged the people of Alkaleri, the home local government area of Governor Bala Mohammed, to sustain their active participation in the political process and remain committed to initiatives that promote peace, unity and sustainable development.
Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed also called for continued support for APM candidates in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of sustaining development programmes and consolidating what she described as the achievements recorded under the present administration.
Speakers at the occasion praised Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and the First Lady for their contributions to the development of Bauchi State, particularly in infrastructure, humanitarian services, social welfare and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens.
They described the Governor and his wife as distinguished representatives of Alkaleri whose leadership and public service activities have continued to attract recognition within and beyond their home local government area.
The speakers maintained that the involvement of women in political mobilization remains essential to strengthening democratic participation, particularly at the grassroots, where women play influential roles in family and community decision-making.
They consequently pledged to intensify political awareness and community engagement across Alkaleri and other parts of Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Their mobilization efforts, they explained, would focus on canvassing support for Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in his bid to represent Bauchi South Senatorial District, the APM gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Yakubu Adamu, and other candidates contesting elective positions on the party’s platform.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Comrade Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, popularly known as Jarman Alkaleri, expressed appreciation to the women for organizing the programme and demonstrating their commitment to community service and political participation.
He described the initiative as an example of how women can contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities while participating in activities that shape the political future of the state.
Comrade Gidado highlighted what he described as the achievements of the Bala Mohammed administration over the past seven years, particularly in infrastructure development and other sectors of the state’s economy.
He encouraged political stakeholders and community leaders to strengthen their engagement with residents, promote peaceful participation in democratic activities and sustain public awareness of government programmes.
A major highlight of the gathering was the charity and empowerment component, which saw assistance extended to members of the community.
The intervention underscored the organizers’ determination to combine political participation with practical humanitarian service, recognizing that community development requires attention to the welfare and economic needs of ordinary citizens.
The programme also brought into focus the increasingly prominent role of women in grassroots organization, social mobilization and local development initiatives across Bauchi State.
Observers at the event noted that women’s involvement in charitable activities and economic empowerment can strengthen community relationships and provide opportunities for greater participation in public affairs.
At the conclusion of the gathering, members of Alkaleri Women for APM Support and Mobilization reaffirmed their commitment to expanding their activities through community consultations, political awareness campaigns and door-to-door outreach.
They expressed determination to engage women, youths and other residents across communities in Bauchi State as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering ultimately reflected two important dimensions of women’s participation in contemporary society: their contributions to humanitarian service and economic empowerment, and their growing involvement in grassroots political organization and democratic engagement.
