The Gombe State Government has intensified efforts towards building a modern, technology-driven public service with the commencement of a Digital Literacy Training Programme for civil servants across the state.
The programme, organised by the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GOSIDEC) in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), is designed to equip public servants with essential digital skills and competencies required to operate effectively in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
Speaking at the inauguration of the training, the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the initiative aligns with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration’s commitment to developing a digitally empowered workforce capable of delivering efficient, transparent and citizen-focused services.
Professor Njodi noted that rapid technological advancement has transformed governance and public administration globally, making digital literacy a necessity for modern public servants.
“The world is undergoing unprecedented technological transformation, and governments across the globe are leveraging digital solutions to improve efficiency, transparency, accountability and responsiveness in service delivery. Our civil servants must therefore possess the requisite digital skills to effectively navigate this new reality,” he said.
He explained that the partnership between GOSIDEC and NITDA came at a strategic time when governments are increasingly adopting technology to enhance governance outcomes and improve service delivery.
The SSG further stated that Governor Inuwa Yahaya has continued to prioritise digital transformation and human capital development as key pillars of the state’s socio-economic progress.
Also speaking, the Head of Civil Service, Professor Mu’azu Shehu, described digital literacy as a strategic requirement for effective governance, noting that digital competence improves productivity and strengthens institutional capacity to address emerging challenges, including cyber threats.
He encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity by acquiring practical knowledge in emerging technologies and applying them in their official responsibilities.
The Acting Head of Training at NITDA’s zonal office, Engr. Yakubu Musa, said digital literacy has become a necessity for workplace relevance and productivity, stressing that civil servants play a critical role in policy implementation and public service delivery.
According to him, the collaboration between NITDA and GOSIDEC is aimed at empowering the state workforce with digital capabilities that will support innovation and improve the quality of public administration.
In a goodwill message, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Abubakar Hassan, represented by Deputy Director Hauwa Mohammed, described the training as timely and strategic, emphasising that investment in digital skills represents investment in the future of public service.
Earlier, the Director-General of GOSIDEC, Dr. Al-Amin Barambu, said the programme marks another milestone in Gombe State’s digital transformation journey and the drive towards building a knowledge-based civil service.
He commended NITDA for its commitment to digital inclusion and capacity development, reaffirming the state government’s resolve to build a technologically advanced and globally competitive public service.
The training programme is expected to provide participants with practical digital skills that will enhance efficiency, strengthen service delivery and accelerate Gombe State’s transition towards a digitally enabled government.
