LAGOS, Nigeria — Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, FNIPR (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), has added another prestigious national honour to his growing list of accolades after emerging as the Gazelle News 2026 Governor of the Year on Grassroots Development.
The award, presented at the Gazelle News Annual Lecture and Awards held on Wednesday at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, celebrates Governor Mohammed’s remarkable record of people-centred governance and his administration’s transformative impact across infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, rural development, youth empowerment and social welfare.
The colourful event drew an impressive gathering of political leaders, policymakers, business executives, media professionals, traditional rulers and civil society actors from across the country, all united in celebrating leadership that has made measurable contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Representing Governor Bala Mohammed at the ceremony, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, MNIPR, received the award on behalf of the Governor.
Announcing the honour, the organisers described Governor Mohammed as one of Nigeria’s leading champions of grassroots development, noting that his administration has consistently pursued policies that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens while laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth and inclusive governance.
According to Gazelle News, Bauchi State has recorded remarkable progress under Governor Mohammed’s leadership through strategic investments in road infrastructure, healthcare facilities, schools, water supply, housing, agricultural transformation, rural development and social intervention programmes that continue to touch communities across the state.
The ceremony featured a keynote lecture by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare, titled “Driving Grassroots Governance Through Public-Private Partnership: The Gains, the Pains and the Prospects.” The lecture highlighted the critical role of visionary leadership, accountability, innovation and strategic partnerships in accelerating national development.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who chaired the occasion, was represented by former Minister Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Earlier, the Editor-in-Chief of Gazelle News, Mr. Musba’u Rasak, said the annual awards recognise public officials and distinguished Nigerians whose leadership has delivered measurable impact in governance, nation-building and socio-economic development.
Accepting the award on behalf of the Governor, Comrade Gidado expressed deep appreciation to the management of Gazelle News, describing the recognition as a powerful affirmation of Governor Bala Mohammed’s unwavering commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy.
