The Bauchi State Government has intensified efforts to attract foreign investment and technical expertise as it moves to establish a strategic partnership with the Republic of Tunisia to tackle critical challenges in renewable energy, water supply, security, and infrastructure development.
The commitment was reinforced during a high-level bilateral meeting between Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and the Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Mohsen Antit, who led a delegation of executives from the Tunisian Consortium for Africa Development (TCAT) and representatives of leading Tunisian companies to the Government House, Bauchi.
The visit builds on discussions initiated following Governor Bala Mohammed’s participation at the Financing, Investment and Trade in Africa (FITA) Conference held in Tunisia in 2025, where both parties explored opportunities for long-term economic cooperation.
Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Mohsen Antit disclosed that the delegation was in Bauchi on the directive of Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, to advance talks on the proposed partnership. He commended Governor Mohammed for fostering stronger diplomatic and economic ties between Bauchi State and Tunisia, describing the relationship as one with enormous potential for mutual growth.
President of the Tunisian Consortium for Africa Development (TCAT), Mr. Anis Jaziri, said the delegation had conducted extensive assessments of key facilities across Bauchi State and was prepared to present practical and affordable solutions in renewable energy, electrification, water infrastructure, security technology, and digital innovation.
Responding, Governor Bala Mohammed reiterated his administration’s determination to deliver projects that directly improve the lives of the people, noting that access to reliable electricity, clean water, and improved security remains central to his government’s development agenda.
The governor explained that the proposed off-grid solar power initiative would provide uninterrupted electricity to hospitals, government offices, and water facilities, reducing dependence on diesel-powered generators while lowering operational costs and improving public service delivery.
On security, Governor Mohammed stressed the need for modern surveillance technologies to strengthen monitoring of forests and vulnerable communities, enhance intelligence gathering, and support security agencies in tackling banditry and other criminal activities.
He also underscored the importance of affordable and sustainable water supply systems capable of extending potable water services to underserved communities without imposing additional financial burdens on residents.
According to the governor, the partnership extends beyond infrastructure, with significant prospects for agriculture, commerce, technology transfer, industrial development, and job creation.
Governor Bala Mohammed expressed confidence that the collaboration would mark the beginning of a new era of economic cooperation between Bauchi State and Tunisia. He urged both technical teams to fast-track discussions and conclude implementation plans that would deliver tangible and lasting benefits to the people of Bauchi State.
Earlier, the Tunisian delegation toured strategic facilities across the state to evaluate project sites and assess the technical feasibility of the proposed interventions, reaffirming Tunisia’s commitment to supporting Bauchi’s drive for sustainable development through innovation, investment, and technology.
