In a decisive move to revive the fortunes of Wikki Tourist Football Club, the Bauchi State Government has dissolved the club’s Management Committee with immediate effect following its disappointing relegation from the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The decision, approved by the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, FNIPR (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), followed a comprehensive assessment of the club’s poor campaign despite sustained financial, administrative, and strategic support from the state government.
The dissolution signals the government’s resolve to restore the pride of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated football clubs, rebuild public confidence, and chart a clear path back to the country’s top-flight league.
Throughout the just-concluded season, the Bauchi State Government fulfilled its financial obligations to the club and provided the necessary backing to enhance its competitiveness. In a final attempt to avoid relegation, Governor Bala Mohammed approved the constitution of a Rescue Team during the closing stages of the league to complement the efforts of the management committee and steer the club away from the drop.
Despite these interventions, Wikki Tourist failed to secure its Premier League status and was relegated to the Nigeria National League.
As part of immediate reforms, Governor Bala Mohammed has appointed Alhaji Haruna Bako, a former Bauchi State Director of Sports with extensive experience in sports administration, as the Interim Sole Administrator of Wikki Tourist Football Club pending the constitution of a new substantive management.
Haruna Bako has been mandated to take over the administration of the club without delay, coordinate the handover of all operations, assets, records, and liabilities, and implement urgent measures aimed at repositioning the team for a successful campaign in the forthcoming Nigeria National League season.
The Bauchi State Government expressed appreciation to the outgoing Management Committee under the leadership of Salmanu Abubakar for their service to the club and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Reaffirming its commitment to restoring Wikki Tourist to its former glory, the government pledged to continue investing in the club’s development and implementing strategic reforms that will guarantee a swift return to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
For football enthusiasts across Bauchi State, the dissolution marks the beginning of a new chapter—one focused on rebuilding, accountability, and the determination to return Wikki Tourist FC to its rightful place among Nigeria’s football elite.
