The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, with particular emphasis on journalists’ welfare, improved working conditions and professional media development.
Special Adviser to the Bauchi State Governor on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, gave the assurance when he received the newly elected executives of the NUJ Bauchi State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Isah Garba Gadau, during a courtesy visit to his office.
Comrade Gidado said his office would continue to maintain a productive working relationship with the union in recognition of the important role journalists play in informing the public, promoting accountability and communicating government policies, programmes and achievements.
He congratulated members of the union and the 2026 NUJ Election Committee on the conduct of the recent council election and urged the newly elected executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by providing inclusive leadership and protecting the professional interests and welfare of members.
The Special Adviser also advised the new executives to draw from the experience of former union leaders and veteran journalists, stressing that consultation, unity and institutional continuity would contribute significantly to the success of their tenure.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ Bauchi State Council, Comrade Isah Garba Gadau, said the visit was intended to formally introduce the newly elected executives and further strengthen the existing relationship between the union and the state government.
Comrade Gadau expressed appreciation to the Office of the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity for what he described as its neutrality during the NUJ electioneering period.
He assured the state government of the union’s readiness to maintain a constructive professional relationship with the administration in promoting policies and programmes aimed at advancing the development of Bauchi State.
The NUJ Chairman also commended the state government for the appointment of casual workers in state-owned media organisations, describing the development as an important intervention towards improving the welfare and job security of affected media personnel.
He further expressed appreciation to the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for the ongoing remodelling of the NUJ State Secretariat, noting that work on the project had reached an advanced stage.
The two sides expressed commitment to sustained engagement aimed at strengthening journalism, enhancing the welfare of media practitioners and promoting responsible government-media relations in Bauchi State.
