Gov. Bala Mohammed Positions State for AI-Driven Investment, Urges CAC to Build Faster, Smarter and Trusted Corporate Registry
By Abdulwahab Muhammad, SSA Communication to the Governor of Bauchi State
Bauchi State has taken centre stage in Nigeria’s emerging digital corporate governance agenda as more than 400 participants from across the country converged on the state for the 2026 Annual Management Retreat of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The four-day strategic retreat, holding at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, Bauchi, is focused on the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build a faster, smarter, more transparent and trusted corporate registry capable of supporting Nigeria’s evolving business environment.
With the theme, “Artificial Intelligence at Scale: Advancing an Intelligent Corporate Registry for Efficient and Trusted Service,” the retreat brings together members of the CAC Governing Board and management, government representatives, technology experts, business stakeholders and other key actors to examine the future of corporate registration and regulatory services in Nigeria.
Declaring the retreat open, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, FNIPR, Kauran Daular Usmaniya, called on the CAC to deepen the deployment of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies in building a corporate registration system that is faster, more transparent, secure and responsive to the needs of businesses.
Governor Bala Mohammed said the increasing adoption of technology by the Commission represents an important step towards improving Nigeria’s business environment and strengthening confidence in the country’s corporate regulatory system.
He acknowledged the CAC’s transition from traditional manual registration procedures to digital platforms and its growing application of technology in areas including name reservation, verification, certificate issuance and regulatory compliance.
The Governor, however, stressed that the next phase of the Commission’s digital transformation must produce robust, inclusive and secure systems capable of improving accessibility without compromising public trust and data security.
According to him, an efficient corporate registry goes far beyond registering companies, as credible and accessible business information provides governments with critical data for economic planning, sustainable expansion of the tax base and the formulation of more effective interventions for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Governor Bala Mohammed said Bauchi State is equally implementing reforms aimed at creating a more favourable environment for businesses and investors.
He highlighted efforts by his administration to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, address multiple taxation and strengthen the Bauchi State Investment Promotion Agency as a one-stop platform for prospective investors.
The Governor declared that Bauchi State is open for digital investment, assuring technology companies, innovators, entrepreneurs and development institutions of his administration’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives capable of generating employment and accelerating sustainable economic growth.
He described the CAC’s decision to hold the national retreat in Bauchi as recognition of the state’s growing reputation as a secure, welcoming and investment-friendly destination capable of hosting major national and international engagements.
Governor Bala Mohammed also described the gathering as a “homecoming,” noting Bauchi State’s contribution to the leadership and development of the Corporate Affairs Commission over the years, including the emergence of the current Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN.
Earlier, the Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer of the CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, described the retreat as a critical component of the Commission’s ongoing digital reform agenda.
He commended the Bauchi State Government for hosting the programme and providing an enabling atmosphere for stakeholders to deliberate on the future of corporate regulation and business registration in Nigeria.
Magaji explained that the Commission’s investments in Artificial Intelligence and other digital technologies are intended to make corporate registration faster, more efficient, secure and transparent while improving the experience of businesses and other users of CAC services.
Also speaking, Chairman of the CAC Governing Board, Distinguished Senator Ibrahim Ida, Wazirin Katsina, stressed the importance of technological inclusion as institutions increasingly adopt emerging technologies.
He urged participants to ensure that the benefits of digital transformation are accessible to relevant stakeholders and called for deliberations at the retreat to be translated into practical reforms consistent with the broader economic objectives of the Federal Government.
Goodwill messages at the occasion also highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence to transform institutional operations and public service delivery.
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, represented by the Wazirin Bauchi, Alhaji Mohammed Uba Kari, alongside representatives of Google Strategic Partners and other stakeholders, emphasised the opportunities presented by AI-powered systems in modernising institutions and providing faster and more responsive services.
The 2026 retreat builds on reform initiatives developed during the Commission’s previous strategic engagements, with restructuring, digitisation, technological innovation and institutional efficiency remaining central to the transformation of Nigeria’s corporate registry.
Beyond discussions on Artificial Intelligence, the Bauchi retreat represents a wider conversation about the future of governance and business regulation in Nigeria, where technology, transparency, security and efficiency are becoming increasingly important determinants of institutional competitiveness.
For Bauchi State, hosting more than 400 participants at such a high-level national engagement also presents opportunities beyond the conference halls, providing visibility for the state’s hospitality sector, investment potential and emerging digital economy.
As deliberations continue until Saturday, September 5, 2026, participants are expected to produce recommendations that could shape the CAC’s roadmap for Artificial Intelligence adoption and the next phase of corporate registry reforms in Nigeria.
The gathering equally reinforces Bauchi State’s ambition to establish itself as a strategic destination for investment, innovation, technology, conferences and institutional development in Nigeria.
