Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has warned political opponents against testing his patience, declaring that his decision to remain calm and restrained despite alleged attacks on his campaign materials should not be mistaken for weakness.
Governor Bala Mohammed made the statement in Bauchi while speaking with journalists shortly after returning from an official engagement in Abuja, where he called on political parties and their supporters to ensure that the 2027 electioneering activities are conducted peacefully, responsibly and in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Governor, who is also the Chief Security Officer of Bauchi State, said his party, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), would strictly adhere to electoral laws and INEC regulations, urging other political actors to demonstrate the same commitment towards peaceful political participation.
He emphasised that political campaigns should focus on issues, policies and programmes that address the needs and aspirations of the people rather than personal attacks, intimidation, violence or actions capable of threatening the peace and stability of the state.
Governor Bala disclosed that some of his campaign posters and billboards had been destroyed by individuals he described as political opponents, adding that he was aware of those behind the acts but had deliberately chosen restraint in the interest of peace.
“I know those destroying my posters, but I choose peace. My restraint should not be interpreted as weakness,” the Governor said.
He explained that as a leader entrusted with public authority, he would not abuse his office by using state power to pursue political opponents or settle personal scores.
Governor Bala Mohammed said his administration had provided a level playing field for all political actors in the state, urging stakeholders not to take his humility, tolerance and commitment to peace for granted.
He called on all political parties and supporters to respect the law, exercise self-control and avoid actions capable of undermining the peaceful coexistence for which Bauchi State is known.
The Governor also urged traditional rulers, security agencies and other stakeholders to remain impartial throughout the electioneering period, stressing the importance of fairness, mutual respect and commitment to the peace and stability of the state.
He commended political parties, candidates and supporters for the peaceful conduct of political activities so far, expressing optimism that the spirit of tolerance and responsible engagement would continue until the 2027 general elections.
Governor Bala Mohammed assured that his administration would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to maintain peace across Bauchi State, stressing that the responsibility of protecting democracy and peaceful political participation rests on everyone.
