The Bauchi State Government has graduated and formally engaged over 2,000 personnel of the State Vigilante and Forestry Security Services following the successful completion of a two-week intensive security training at the Police Training School, Bauchi.
The newly trained personnel, drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas of the state, are expected to support efforts aimed at protecting the state’s forests, farmlands and communities while complementing the operations of conventional security agencies.
The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Muhammad Auwal Jatau, who represented Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed at the passing-out parade and served as the reviewing officer, said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving security and creating employment opportunities for youths.
He stated that as employees of the Bauchi State Government, the personnel have a dual responsibility of safeguarding the state’s natural resources and providing security support to communities.
Governor Bala Mohammed charged the new security personnel to operate strictly within the confines of the law, maintain professionalism and work closely with conventional security agencies to sustain peace and stability across the state.
He also called on security institutions to continue supporting the state government’s efforts in addressing security challenges and ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Aliyu Omolorin, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Musa Bulus, commended the initiative, describing the recruitment and training as a significant step towards strengthening grassroots security.
He urged the personnel to respect human rights, maintain discipline and build effective partnerships with the police and other security agencies in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Commandant of Police Training School Bauchi, ACP Abdullahi Umar, also praised the commitment of the state government, noting that the personnel had acquired the necessary training to support security operations.
In his remarks, the Chief Security Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed, DIG Sani Mohammed (Rtd), said the establishment of the security service would contribute significantly to addressing security challenges by complementing the efforts of the Federal Government and other security agencies.
He appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for prioritising security and youth employment, adding that the initiative would enhance community-based policing and improve safety across Bauchi State.
