The Bauchi State Governorship Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Dr. Yakubu Adamu, has donated ₦21 million as relief support to victims of flood disaster in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area, and windstorm victims in Shira Local Government Area of the state.
Dr. Adamu made the donation during separate sympathy visits to the affected communities, where he expressed solidarity with residents who suffered devastating losses following the natural disasters.
In Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area, the flood disaster, triggered by a heavy downpour, caused the death of a grandmother, Aishatu Sagir, and her granddaughter, Rahama Sagir.
The disaster destroyed more than 360 houses, damaged several structures, affected farmlands, killed livestock, and displaced hundreds of residents who were forced to seek temporary shelter in mosques and schools.
During his visit to Bara, Dr. Yakubu Adamu described the incident as heartbreaking, offering prayers for the deceased victims and their families.
He announced a donation of ₦10 million to support flood victims and an additional ₦1 million to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
He prayed to Allah to grant the affected families strength, ease their difficulties, and forgive the souls of the departed.
The District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bara, expressed appreciation to the APM governorship candidate on behalf of the community, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
He said the support would help reduce the suffering of families affected by the destruction of their homes, properties, and sources of livelihood.
Residents of Bara commended Dr. Yakubu Adamu for his quick response, describing the gesture as a demonstration of compassion, empathy, and responsible leadership during a difficult period.
Yakubu Adamu Extends Support to Shira Windstorm Victims
In Shira Local Government Area, Dr. Yakubu Adamu donated another ₦10 million relief package to families affected by a devastating windstorm that destroyed homes and properties in the area.
The intervention covered affected communities including Dango, Disina, and Zubo, where many families suffered severe damage to their shelters and means of livelihood.
Dr. Adamu expressed sadness over the incident, saying he shared the pains of the affected residents and encouraged them to see the situation as part of Allah’s will.
He explained that leadership is not only about promises but about showing genuine concern, taking action, and responding to the needs of the people when they need support most.
According to him, natural disasters such as floods and windstorms can create serious challenges for communities, stressing the importance of collective responsibility among leaders, organisations, and individuals in supporting victims.
He assured the affected families that they were not alone, adding that the financial assistance was aimed at providing urgent relief and helping them begin the process of recovery.
Dr. Adamu also called on relevant authorities, organisations, and well-meaning individuals to extend assistance to disaster victims, noting that collective efforts are vital in rebuilding affected communities.
Residents of the affected areas appreciated the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention and a sign of compassion and commitment towards people facing hardship.
They said the support would go a long way in easing their suffering and helping them restore their homes and livelihoods.
